does the wearing of music earphones pose a risk at work?
employees wish to listen to music through earphones whilst also wearing ear safety defenders, I wish to know whether this is safe
If you have to wear ear defenders then clearly you are already in a noisy environment, so the problems suggested by others such as not being able to hear fire alarms clearly don’t apply.
However, ear defenders over headphones might be a problem. The phones might stop the defenders from fitting properly, which might reduce their effectiveness. Its also possible that the pressure of defenders over the phones could cause them to be pushed further and harder into your ear than is safe. And its possible that the effect of the defenders could concentrate all the sound from the earphones back into your ear, so the damage from the phones could be more than you expect.
There are also some indirect links that might indicate a risk. If the environment is noisy then I assum there is a lot of machinery? In which case the cord from the earphones might be at risk of getting tangled.
