Which game has more realistic drumming “tabs” or music: Guitar Hero or Rock Band?
And for whatever game does have more realistic drumming tabs, how accurate are they? Thanks.
It is definitely Rock Band. As a real drummer, it is clear to see which is more realistic. And there is actually legitimate proof to back that up.
Guitar Hero has a snare, two toms, and two cymbals. It is nearly impossible to play a song with that combination. The hi-hat is charted exclusively to the left cymbal on this drum set, leaving every single other cymbal to be charted on the one other cymbal. They also pay absolutely no attention whatsoever to the hi-hat pedal, or the open hi-hat. They chart it as hitting the hi-hat harder, which is not how it is done on a real drum set. Then, the two toms leave little room for realistic rolls. Also, the way that the pads are positioned are very realistic. They are all on an upward slant aligned across the same line. A snare drum is supposed to be flat, but on the Guitar Hero drum set, you must keep your wrist locked in a certain position in order to hit a snare roll. This is very unrealistic to a real drum set.
Rock Band, on the other hand, has a snare, 3 toms, and 3 cymbals. They offer multiple drum sets that allow for a lot of arrangement of the pads and cymbals for selective comfort. Cymbals are optional on this drum set, testing the mind of the drummer allowing them to differentiate between a tom drum and a cymbal. The 3 cymbals allow for the hi-hat to be charted to one, the ride cymbals charted to one, and a crash cymbal charted to one. And the tom drums allow for a very realistic roll. The ION Drum Rocker is the optimal music game drumming experience and is nearly identical to playing a real drum set.
People claim the Guitar Hero drum set is more realistic because it has cymbals, but they are also a major option on Rock Band drums. And the fact that they are optional allows the player to understand drums more and not just force them to hit something.
Any experienced real and fake drummer could see the clear winner in music game drumming realism.
