A special, second holiday helping of Trash A Go-Go for the people. Featuring
Rolling Bowling, a young rockabilly trio from Beijing. They are bringing their
acoustic double-bass and going to knock the house down.
Rockabilly is one of the original styles of rock ‘n’ roll. Innovated in
Memphis in the mid-50s, Elvis’s first recordings are usually considered the
basis of the style. It mashes together the “rocking” of R & B/jump blues but
with a heavy emphasis on the structure and instrumentation of hillbilly, or
country music. Most of the early purveyors were rural whites from the South in
the USA. It’s usually dance music with a very simple band. Elvis’s first
recordings had just an acoustic guitar, double-bass, and an electric guitar –
that’s it.
